Estate Found Antique Identified WWI British War Medal
Also known as a "Squeak" Medal
    Description
This is a handsome estate found antique British War Medal dating to circa 1919. Rendered in fine sterling silver, this WWI medal was awarded to officers and men of the British Forces who either entered a theater of war or entered service overseas between August 5, 1914 and November 11,1918. The obverse of the medal features the left facing bust of King George V. The reverse depicts a warrior on horseback with the legend 1914-1918. The edge rim identifies the soldier as Private J.A. Andrews of the Northamptonshire Regiment. His service number is 39798. The medal is suspended from a ribbon that would have been used for the British "Victory Medal".
A fellow eBayer was kind enough to send along the following information about the soldier:
    J. A. Andrews was also awarded the Military Medal for gallantry and devotion to duty under fire or for individual or associated acts of bravery which were insufficient to merit the Distinguished Conduct Medal (Dated 13th June 1919).
